Gain profound theoretical and practical knowledge of European Union institutions, policies, decision making procedures, politics, economics and law in a unique master programme!
Emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach, the programme combines courses in multiple academic fields. Study trips and specialised practical seminars allow you direct insights into the work of  EU-institutions,  as you meet experts and practitioners. You will put your knowledge into practice in simulations and moot courts and engage in negotiations of current issues as labour migration, free trade agreements or climate change, supervised by teams of teachers from different fields as well as experts from outside the university.



Being English-taught, the programme furthermore allows for an
international educational environment and enhances your international
qualifications and language competences. That focus is additionally
deepened by attractive opportunities for studying abroad, including the
chance to acquire a double degree at one of our partner universities in
Rome or Olomouc.

How to apply

Combining Practise and Research

Climate change, labour mobility, financial markets, free trade, the fight against terrorism – all of these pressing issues are addressed by the European Union. This Master programme provides you with the core knowledge of the legal basis, the political environment and the economic effects of European Union decision making. 

You will work on practical cases in simulations and moot courts, will meet European decision makers and get the chance to discuss current topics with the most renowned scholars in the field.

Salzburg is located right in the heart of Europe. Famous for Mozart, music, festivals, mountains and pastries, it is also a university town. The Paris Lodron University was founded in 1622 and today hosts around 18.000 students in nine different faculties and focus areas, including the SCEUS. The Edmundsburg

In 1696 the Edmundsburg was built as a summer residence for the abbot of the abbey St. Peter. After a total refurbishment in 2008 this historical place now accommodates the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies. Located at the slopes of the Mönchsberg it overlooks Salzburg’s old town and is a unique place for studying the European Union.

The European Union Studies master programme provides you with the possibility to study abroad for some time and earn a double degree in cooperation with two prestigious European universities:
The Palacký University Olomouc – the oldest university in Moravia – is a modern higher education facility with a wide range of study programmes and copious scientific and research activities.
LUISS – Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli – has an outstanding reputation and is currently educating over 9,000 students from around the world.

Stefan Griller

Academic Director

Together with his team Stefan Griller is teaching EU law. His special fields of research are European fiscal federalism and European Consitutional Law, specifically the interplay between EU and national law, European economic law and legal theory



Florian Huber

Deputy Director

Florian Huber and his colleagues are teaching economics of European integration. His special fields of research are European monetary and fiscal policy, international macroeconomics and time series analysis



Michael Blauberger

Deputy Director

Michael Blauberger and his team are teaching courses on European Union politics. His speciel field of research is the interplay of political and judicial decision-making in the EU (e.g. regarding the rights of Union citizens or democratic backsliding in member states).



Doris Wydra

Executive Director

As Executive Director and head of the curricular commission Doris Wydra is responsible for all administrative concerns of the study programme. Her special field of research are EU foreign relations. She is also director of the Austrian-Russian summer school.
